Mgr Maria Varlamova

Maria Varlamova is an expert in the field of social analysis and public policy, specializing in research on the aging process of societies, active aging, employment of women with children, social protection, and the effectiveness of family and demographic policies. She has extensive experience collaborating with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECE), assisting in the development of indicators, metadata, and guidelines related to active and healthy aging.

Since 2018, she has been working with the Center for Evaluation and Analysis of Public Policies at Jagiellonian University. Currently a doctoral candidate at the same university, she is involved in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN EuroAgeism and EIWO projects, conducting research on aging societies and labor market inequalities in selected Central and Eastern European countries. Her experience spans research on human capital quality, intergenerational relationships, and social protection. At the national level, she has assessed the effectiveness of the Action Strategy for Senior Citizens until 2025 in Russia and calculated international indices such as AAI and AgeWatch. Maria Varlamova also delivers lectures and workshops on research design, data analysis using R, and the impact of aging on the labor market.

Maria has significant experience in research project management. Between 2008 and 2013, she served as Deputy Director at the Center for European and International Relations Research, where she coordinated research projects and training.

She holds a Master's degree in Sociology (Demography) from the National Research University - Higher School of Economics in Moscow and a diploma in Economics and Management. Maria has participated in numerous courses and workshops on advanced research methods and statistical analysis, such as the Global School in Empirical Research Methods at the University of St. Gallen, Health Ageing for Impact in the 21st Century: Global Online Leaders Training program organized by the World Health Organization, and the Advanced Course on Using Mplus and Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling and Advanced Topics in Applied Regression.

Maria Varlamova demonstrates strong analytical and research competencies, as well as deep expertise in public policy. She possesses excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate with diverse teams, flexibility in adapting to changing conditions, and commitment to maintaining the highest research standards. Furthermore, her intercultural competencies enable her to effectively collaborate with international teams and organizations.
